According to the Bureau of Statistics, the latest available snapshot of Australia taken on Census night, 9 August, 2011, found 19,831 Queenslanders were homeless.

Of those:

  • 1,582 people lived in improvised dwellings, tents or sleeping out
  • 3,786 people stayed in accommodation for the homeless
  • 4,308 people stayed temporarily in other households
  • 3,775 people stayed in boarding houses
  • 194 people stayed in other temporary lodging
  • 6,186 people lived in severely crowded dwellings.

Our official figures show how many people are waiting for housing, how much the waiting list has varied in the past 12 months, and how much we have funded homelessness support groups and social housing.
