 Bill and Susan

“We were homeless for nine months after our long-term rental property in Hervey Bay was put up for sale.

Most rental properties were snapped up before we even got a chance to view them and so what we thought would take a few weeks turned into months of searching.
We stayed with friends and family and even lived in a garage for some time.
It was a very stressful time for us. We were not only homeless, but Bill’s health was also deteriorating.
Unfortunately Bill has been quite unwell – he has a degenerative brain disease and also needs a hip and knee replacement.
Emotionally, it was really hard. There is a sense of uncertainty that comes with a serious illness like this, but even more so when you have no stable home to come back to.
We met with RentConnect officer David and explained our situation.
David was incredible – he organised for us to apply for a bond loan and rental grant and put together 10 housing packs with all the paperwork we needed to submit to real estate agents when we applied for rental properties.
This had a big impact and we finally started to get some success.
We found a lovely little two-bedroom low-set home in River Heads that has allowed us to also keep our two little dogs – it even has a water view.”
