“Late last year, my 18-month-old daughter and I found ourselves alone and homeless after a change in my personal circumstances affected our living situation.
It was a very stressful time for us. I had no idea where we were going to live and what the future held.
I didn’t know where to go and some services were not able to help me because I was a young 18-year-old single dad with a small child, but Family Emergency Accommodation Townsville (F.E.A.T) was able to take us in.
We stayed there for almost three months, but I was keen to make a better future for my daughter and give her a permanent home.
That’s when Sharehouse Youth Accommodation Program Inc. became involved. They supported us while we were living in emergency accommodation, providing us with a unit for nine months and then assisting us in securing a private two-bedroom rental home.
Sharehouse has been a great support and is helping me get back on track to achieve my goals of providing a secure home for my daughter and increasing my skills so that I can apply for entry to the Australian Defence Force.
I am currently volunteering at the Townsville Flexible Learning Centre two days a week and hoping to take the Defence Force entry test in the near future.”
