“During my lifetime, I have been a single parent with five children and have worked for 23 years as a teacher and trainer. I have also suffered with mental health issues.
Around three and a half years ago, my daughter and I became homeless due to a family conflict. My daughter, who was very ill at the time, recommended we contact Micah Projects.
Micah found us a place to stay in a motel then sometime later found us a place in a transitional housing property run by a community housing provider. Thanks to Micah’s help we were able to reconnect with the health system, and begin to heal from our ordeal. I had the support I needed to address my mental health issues.
We were then offered longer-term housing with onsite support from Brisbane Common Ground, which has also helped.
My daughter has successfully re-entered university and is due to complete her degree this July. All of my children are settled and getting on with their lives and three have successfully completed tertiary education. I have also been blessed with two beautiful grandchildren.
As a mother and as a 68 year old lady, I now live with dignity in a supportive environment. I feel that I can go forward and take the next steps in my life.”
