 Sloane

“I was living with the mother of my two young children when our relationship broke down. It was a hard time on everyone and I had to move into a one-bedroom high-set unit.

I wanted a more suitable family home so that my daughters and I could be together, but I was living in a small unit that didn’t have a yard for the kids to play in.

I met with Julie, my local RentConnect officer based at the Ipswich Housing Service Centre.

Julie suggested a range of options, including the National Rental Affordability Scheme which allows people like me to rent privately owned properties at 80 per cent of the market rate.

Within one and a half weeks Julie found my daughters and I a lovely modern three-bedroom duplex through an affordable housing program.

Not only did Julie help find us a home, she also discovered that I had been eligible for Federal Government rent assistance for the past two years and organised a back payment, which paid for the bond for our new home.

We now all live together in this new home with a nice little backyard, which has provided us stability and peace of mind.

And now that the girls are settled and have both started school I have been able to further my own education and am studying an 18-month Diploma of Youth Work through Evocca College.”
