Stadium Taskforce

The Stadium Taskforce was established on 22 April 2018 to review the pricing and practices of Stadiums Queensland. The Taskforce is led by Mr John Lee, an experienced sports administrator.

The Taskforce was requested to examine the current operating and pricing models for major sports events for each of the venues within the Stadiums Queensland portfolio and how these models impact hirers, patrons, major event attraction, and the costs and benefits to the Queensland community.

On 16 July 2018, Mr Lee provided his interim report to Queensland Government. The interim report is focused on creating certainty and improving arrangements for hirers so that decisions can be made prior to the 2018 and 2019 sporting seasons. The interim report recommendations focus on:

  • improving the sustainability of the hirers of Metricon and Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast
  • important operational considerations for the new Townsville Stadium
  • realising commercial opportunities at the Gabba.

The Government supports or supports-in-principle the recommendations made within the interim report.

The final report from the taskforce will be provided later in 2018 and will inform the Queensland Government Sport and Active Recreation Strategy.
