The National Prequalification System for Non-Residential Building (NPS) applies to non-residential building contracts where the construction cost is $50 million or more.
The NPS aims to harmonise the prequalification systems across Australia to avoid duplication of effort by contractors and jurisdictions, and also provide mutual recognition (where possible) of contractor prequalification by jurisdictions.
Who should apply for NPS?
Contractors already prequalified under the Queensland Government’s PQC System at the time of the NPS (1 January 2011), who were eligible to tender for contracts $50 million and over, were transitioned to the NPS and no re-application was required.
However, any contractor wanting to access the benefit of mutual recognition across a number of areas (other than Queensland) will need to apply under the NPS and then seek registration with those areas.
Contractors seeking prequalification for the first time for contracts $50 million and over, will need to apply under the NPS.
