Select tendering involves inviting a limited number of contractors to tender on a contract, based primarily on a suitable match between their prequalification status and the contract requirements.
This minimises the total cost of tendering to the industry, while ensuring adequate competition by using a transparent, fair and equitable system.
To achieve consistency across government, select tender lists of contractors drawn from the Prequalification (PQC) System are generally only prepared for contracts expected to exceed $250,000 where the assessed service risk rating is high (3 or 4).
Such lists are prepared by the Department of Housing and Public Works without charge to, and in consultation with, government departments.
