 Water management

Queensland is a state of weather extremes.

Before the devastating floods of 2010–11, we experienced the worst drought in over 100 years and the Queensland Government implemented a number of key water management strategies.

Water conservation program

In order to reduce water consumption in government owned office buildings we have delivered water conservation initiatives including:

  • internal water efficiency labelling and standards policy, installation of water efficient dual flush toilets and adjustment of the flushing volume and delay of urinals
  • water efficiency management plans and conservation measures for our office buildings across the state
  • alternative water collection and grey water systems in selected Department of Housing and Public Works owned office buildings
  • development of water management guidance material.
This publication was produced prior to the current government.
