Sustainable procurement

Under the State Procurement Policy, Queensland Government agencies should integrate sustainability practices into the procurement of goods, services and construction.

Undertaking sustainable procurement contributes to sustainable development and environmental protection. It also promotes supply chain reform in terms of government doing business with socially responsible and ethical suppliers.

A working definition for sustainable procurement (PDF, 215KB) has been developed. This definition provides clarity to Queensland Government on how to interpret sustainable procurement and integrate it into day-to-day procurement practice. It also provides suppliers to government information about expectations regarding sustainable procurement.
