There’s no place like home

For Judy, there’s no place like home.

It was six years ago that she moved into her place in Toowoomba and there has been no looking back.

“I love it. I’ve been able to create a garden and I feel like I’ve got a safe place, it’s very secure”, says Judy.

Since moving into her home, Judy has successively built up her garden to create something great from nothing.

“When I moved in to my place there wasn’t much of garden. But I’ve built it up over the years because I love gardening.”

Actively participating in the My Home Awards, Judy is a keen supporter of the event.

“The My Home Awards are fantastic, they are something to look forward to. We have the Carnival of Flowers here in Toowoomba and we could never compete in that competition, so to have the My Home Awards is great.”

Judy’s garden suffered a setback during winter, with her whole garden affected by black frost.

“It was very disappointing to see the garden in a terrible state due to the black frost. But I’ve gone back in the garden and will participate again in the My Home Awards next year.”

Judy enjoys attending events and recently went to the Toowoomba Tenant Health and Wellbeing Expo with her sister.

“I got an invitation in the mail and decided to attend because no matter what event the department organises, it is always interesting.”

The event featured different services and provided free massages, a free sausage sizzle and live entertainment.

“The department staff are excellent, and they have looked after us all at the event”, Judy says.

With her faithful fox terrier named Wally by her side, Judy says she stays active and healthy by tending to her garden.

“Gardening provides good exercise and Wally likes to watch me while I am in garden. I am so glad that I can have him in my home. It’s great.”

Being part of a community, having a safe home with a garden and a canine companion means everything to Judy, “I feel like I belong.”
