Residential services legislation

The residential services legislation defines a residential accommodation service. It establishes systems for the registration and accreditation of residential services to ensure the services are conducted at an appropriate standard.

Guidance on building legislation associated with residential services is available for building certifiers and local government. However, the department does not administer Guidance on residential services legislation is available from the Residential Services Unit.

Any enquiries regarding the following topics should be directed to the respective areas of the department.

Residential Services (Accreditation) Act 2002

For information about residential service, contact the department's Residential Services Unit. The Residential Services Unit can provide advice regarding the regulation and accreditation processes for residential services. The Unit also regulates residential services in accordance with the requirements of the Act.

For information about the accommodation rights and responsibilities of residents and service providers contact the Residential Tenancies Authority.
