Safe and healthy buildings

Use the links on the left to view guidelines developed to help government promote safe and healthy buildings.

We also encourage the design of homes offering improved liveability for people with physical disabilities, and have several projects to address air quality inside buildings.

Strengthening professional indemnity insurance

The Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance market for building industry professionals has undergone recent significant change.

Availability and affordability of compliant PI insurance has been impacted across Australia.

We engaged Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) to undertake an in-depth and evidence based analysis of the PI insurance market to understand the influencing factors on the market.

The PwC interim report (PDF, 3.5MB) analyses:

  • the factors influencing the PI insurance market
  • the impacts the current PI insurance market has on PI insurance and the building and construction industry.

Next steps

We will continue to work with PwC, industry and other jurisdictions including the Australian Government on a national response.
