Transport and traffic management

In February 2020, the North Queensland Stadium will open and welcome patrons to sporting, cultural and community events. Wherever you’re coming from, there will be a convenient and affordable way to travel to the stadium.

Choose the right travel option for you

Parking

There are at least 2000 on-street marked car parks and additional pay-on-entry car parks within private parking facilities within 15 minutes’ walk of the stadium. Parking fees and restrictions will be enforced in some areas.

General public parking at the Dean Street car park may be limited or prohibited during events.

Park 'n' walk

On event days, park ’n’ walk facilities will be available for about 900 cars at Reid Park.

Patrons will be able to safely cross the rail line using the new Reid Park Active Transport Bridge.

Park 'n' ride

A park 'n' ride service will be located a short bus ride from the stadium.

Shuttle bus services will operate for advertised durations before and after events.

Pedestrians and cyclists

New pedestrian and cycle paths will connect the stadium to the CBD via Lowths Bridge and new active travel bridges at Little Fletcher Street and Reid Park. Paths will also provide easy access to the accommodation and entertainment in Palmer Street.

Drop-off and pick-up

On site there will be:

  • designated zones to drop-off and pick-up people with disabilities
  • some parking for people with disabilities that will need to be pre-booked.

There is no public parking on site.

Designated zones for general public drop-off and pick-up, and taxi and ride share services, will be located within easy walking distance.

Buses and coaches

Designated public bus services and parking for private coaches will be located just a short walk from the stadium.

Finalising management plans

The North Queensland Stadium project team are finalising a comprehensive transport and traffic management plan for the stadium and surrounding precincts.

The project team and the traffic engineer are working closely with:

  • Department of Transport and Main Roads
  • Townsville City Council
  • Stadiums Queensland
  • local police and other emergency services.

More detailed travel information will be released as transport management planning is progressed.
