Brisbane Open House
Brisbane Open House (BOH) is a two-day annual event that invites residents and visitors to explore architecturally significant buildings throughout the Brisbane central business district, Fortitude Valley, South Bank and selected suburban areas.
The Department has been a founding partner of Brisbane Open House since the initiative launched in 2010. The department supports the event through sponsorship and by opening doors to important public buildings across the city. Additionally, the Brisbane Open House committee is chaired by the Queensland Government Architect, Malcolm Middleton.
Behind the scenes access
BOH opens up buildings of architectural, historical and sustainable design excellence to the public through free guided and self-guided tours with access to usually unseen ‘back-of-house’ areas.
In doing so, it gives the public and visitors to the city an insight into the splendour of the buildings, their history and their stories, and also the creative vision of the design teams who built them and the organisations that thrive within.
The event receives support from a diverse range of private and public sector organisations and is the product of a unique partnership between:
Open House Worldwide
BOH is a member of the Open House Worldwide family.
Open House events are now staged in a variety of cities including London, New York, Chicago, Barcelona, Dublin, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
The cultural importance of these events continues to grow with buildings and visitor numbers increasing each year thanks to strong government, corporate and community support.
