A Rockhampton meat supermarket is passionate about buying Queensland produce which adds value to the supply chain.
Boodles Meats is Rockhampton’s leading trader of premium meat to the retail and wholesale markets.
The business is listed on the Queensland Government Food and Beverage Supplier Directory, which provides Boodles Meats with better buying power with the savings passed onto the Government.
Boodles Meats currently contracts to Corrective Services and a hospital in its home town.
With a meat supermarket, processing plant and distribution centre in Rockhampton, Boodles Meats is famous for good old-fashioned service, tasty sausages, quality meat and award-winning ham.
Boodles Meats owner, Peter, said buying local is vital to the economy.
“We source all of our products from brokers in Brisbane, which in turn they source from local farms in the Queensland area,” he said.
“We buy a lot of meat from Nolan Meats in Gympie and we have dealt with them for 20 years – it’s good to network with other Queensland businesses, which adds value to the supply chain.”
Boodles Meats employ 26 people – including 15 butchers – aged from 18 to 64. The business also provides training opportunities, with three apprentices on staff.
“We have a program where we try to hire an apprentice each January to join the team,” Peter said.
The business takes its role in the central Queensland community very seriously and is proud to be an active sponsor of local sporting clubs.
“We provide sponsorships to three local sporting groups,” he said.
