Through our immediate response fund, we are helping those who need extra support during this challenging time.
We have boosted our funding to Home Assist Secure, extending services to include delivery of essential items such as groceries and medication, regular welfare checks, and referrals to community support services if required.
Home Assist Secure is a service for Queenslanders aged 60 years and over, or people of any age with a disability, who can’t do or pay for critical home maintenance without assistance.
In the Toowoomba and South West region, not-for-profit organisation, YellowBridge Queensland, delivers Home Assist Secure and CEO Penny Hamilton says the new service has been beneficial for many clients who need to stay at home.
“The self-isolation requirements have been really hard for many of our clients, especially those who are elderly and live alone or without nearby family,” Ms Hamilton said.
“Getting to the shops and chemist is a little harder for elderly people, especially when they should be restricting their outings for their own protection against the virus.
“We introduced a new shopping service for elderly clients. We do their groceries and collect their medication and deliver it to them as a contactless service. So far, we have completed 45 shopping services.”
One happy client was so appreciative of the extended services, she left a bunch of homegrown roses on her doorstep, along with a message of thanks to Home Assist Secure officer Yvonne after she’d had her groceries delivered.
