Employment creating a positive social impact
An open market tender for Landscape and Maintenance Services to public housing unit complexes in South East Queensland is reaping employment benefits for dozens of full-time workers and trainees.
The QBuild tender was awarded for a three-year term to four social enterprises; Choice Passion Life, Multhana Property Services, SEED Property Parks and Maintenance and yourtown.
After an initial trial these enterprises have proven themselves in servicing and pricing, effective resourcing, and workplace health and safety.
Building social inclusion
Choice Passion Life is providing support for people of all ages. They employ people with disability and help staff to find a job, providing a sense of self-worth and achievement. They have a crew 15 employees, including three trainees and two full-time support workers.
Multhana Property Services has a focus on employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The tender has provided employment for four people including the company’s first Indigenous female employee in landscape grounds maintenance.
SEED Property Parks and Maintenance creates social inclusion by providing employment and employment pathways for people marginalised from mainstream employment. As a result of the tender they have made a difference to several long-term unemployed people.
Improving the quality of life through employment, especially of people who are marginalised and without voice, yourtown has put on 10 young trainees and a few trade qualified supervisors.
QBuild is committed to adding social value to government spending wherever they can. This is a great example of government procurement processes supporting the long-term wellbeing of the Queensland community.
