Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing staff provide housing solutions to help meet the needs of customers in their communities.
Karen, who works in the Hope Vale office and lives in the community, says that her role involves more than just finding a home for people in need.
“I assist by educating the community on housing processes such as reporting maintenance, by empowering tenants to manage all aspects of their tenancies and by providing information to stakeholders to help their customers find what they need.”
Karen has worked with the department for 7 years and says that the best thing about her job is that she can work and make a difference in the community she lives in.
“Having the opportunity for real employment in my community is fantastic. I enjoy helping to break down barriers between the community, the department and stakeholders to achieve great outcomes for all.”
