The Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) has reviewed current court recording and transcription services. In line with the recommendations outlined in the Queensland Audit Report 9: 2015-16, the review included a current state analysis, market sounding, and a detailed assessment of service delivery requirements incorporating user needs. From this, feasible service delivery options were evaluated, with DJAG opting for a model with DJAG managing most recording and the courtroom recording equipment, and the transcription being outsourced.
Since the initial notification of these upcoming procurements in January, DJAG has undertaken significant work, including detailed procurement planning and can confirm the following estimated timeframes for key procurements under the Recording and Transcription Project:
1. Recording Software – May 2019
The purpose of the Recording Software procurement is to purchase the recording and transcription software that will be integrated into the DJAG Recording Platform and used to facilitate the recording and transcription of court proceedings under the new service delivery model.
2. Service Operations Platform – July 2019
The Service Operations Platform procurement will procure a service provider to establish, customise, and subsequently support and maintain, a software-as-a-service platform to facilitate the operation of the new service, including establishing the client interface, integrating with DJAG systems, and providing the interface with outsourced Transcription Services.
3. Transcription Services – November 2019
The purpose of the Transcription Services procurement is to procure one or more Transcription providers to deliver transcription services.
