 Legislation

The Housing Act 2003 (PDF, 582KB) commenced on 1 January 2004 and provides a modern, effective and accountable system for the delivery of housing and housing-related services by the State Government and funded organisations in Queensland. The main objects of the Act are to improve the access of Queenslanders to safe, secure, appropriate and affordable housing, and to help build sustainable communities.

The Housing Act 2003  sets out the obligations for people that receive housing assistance and it applies the National Regulatory System for Community Housing to community housing providers that operate in Queensland.

The Housing Regulation 2015 (PDF, 483KB) is the supporting legislation for the Housing Act 2003. The regulation sets out the information people must provide when receiving housing assistance and the requirements funded organisations need to meet when delivering housing and related services.

For more information about the Act, please read the Housing Act 2003 - Information for clients (PDF, 88KB) (DOC, 104KB) fact sheet.

Visit Regulatory Services for more information about the National Regulatory System for Community Housing.
