Housing pathways for young people
Everyone needs a place to call home, but young people in our communities can face challenges accessing housing.
The Queensland Government is committed to helping vulnerable young people achieve social and economic independence through an integrated framework of housing with support.
In January 2025, the Queensland Government committed to delivering 8 new Youth Foyers across Queensland.
Youth Foyers provide accommodation and support for 40 young people, aged 16 to 25, who are committed to engaging in education and/or training, as a pathway to developing the skills needed to achieve independence.
The Queensland Government is committed to keeping young people off the streets by delivering:
- enhanced and expanded temporary supported accommodation services for young people experiencing homelessness
- more housing pathways through a youth subsidy for Community Housing Providers to help house more young people
- an enhanced Rental Security Subsidy to help meet the needs of young people under 25 years
- more Housing and Support Link Services for young mothers, babies and families accessing medical treatment
- a Supported Tenancies initiative for young parents at risk of homelessness
- early intervention for First Nations families whose young people are at risk of homelessness.
In 2024-25, the Queensland Government has allocated $75.9 million in Homelessness Program funding to 39 non-government organisations to deliver 63 Specialist Homelessness Services across Queensland, providing support services specifically for young people. These supports include temporary supported accommodation and tenancy sustainment services.
We connect young people with support options to achieve long-term social and economic outcomes, while keeping their tenancy in social, affordable, or private market housing.
