Fostering future industry leaders
Founded in 2018, Baidam Solutions now supports 11 Queensland Government departments across 40 contracts with technical solutions, consultancy services and penetration testing.
Its current 20 staff, of whom 40% in total are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, 60% in total are Queenslanders and 20 per cent in total are women, are located in Brisbane and regional Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
A 100 per cent Australian-owned and operated First Nations business, Baidam Solutions embodies the Buy Queensland procurement approach by advancing Indigenous capability and industry representation. It supports Indigenous peoples through jobs, traineeships, training pathways, a University of Queensland scholarship and community fundraising, while driving supply chain sustainability.
It’s Baidam Initiative is an innovative program focused on returning half its profits into productive pathways for Indigenous applicants, offers SANS Institute and Offensive Security Training, Learn Unlimited subscriptions and TAFE training.
By tackling skill shortages, Baidam Solutions is also ensuring Queensland’s economy benefits from the booming ICT industry.
Jack Reis, co-founder and group Chief Executive Officer said: “What we do differently to the big players is reinvest profits back into communities.”
Jack would like more Indigenous school leavers to join the lucrative industry, ultimately raising the participation rate to three per cent.
Through Baidam Solutions, he’s aiming to upskill employees into high level Indigenous executives, who will become industry role models for young people.
“We want to achieve the closing the gap initiative through economic outcomes,” Jack said.
“We can support First Nationals Australians within our industry and more importantly, give back to our sovereign nation and sovereign state.”
More than 50 per cent of the company’s total discretionary spend last year supported Queensland businesses, with approximately $309,000 of it spend with 20 Indigenous businesses and contractors.
