Helping disadvantaged people change lives
Started in 2018, Green Fox Studio is an award-winning, full service creative agency and social enterprise. Its not-for-profit arm, Green Fox Training Studio, first established in a high-security Queensland prison in 2019, aims to prevent at-risk individuals from future imprisonment, and to help break the cycle of reoffending by skilling individuals to participate as productive members of society. From nine initial trainees, more than 164 were trained by September 2021.
Seeing first-hand the ‘hunger for education, learning and change’ of inmates, Managing Directors Amanda Shepherd and Kelly Willmott created an innovative approach to help.
When demand exceeded class sizes, Kelly and Amanda created an online/offline training platform with inmate voice-overs to teach Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, and job-seeking skills.
When the prison program ceased, Green Fox Training Studio pivoted, opening two studios in Caboolture and Grafton to train young people at risk. Two creative training studios for high-risk and vulnerable women will start this year in Queensland and Victoria.
Ten designers, including training graduates, are employed across the two organisations.
“If society does not give them an opportunity, it is really, really hard to change and then we end up with a bigger problem in all of our communities,” Kelly said.
Supporting the Buy Queensland procurement approach, Green Fox employs locally and uses other social enterprises within its supply chain wherever possible. Its social initiatives drive social outcomes, creating employment opportunities for socially isolated, vulnerable and at-risk Queenslanders and fostering local economic development and growth.
“Together, we’re all stronger”, Kelly said.
